Double Loss for Rangers

Not only did the New York Rangers fall to the Tampa Bay Lightning, they watched Eric Lindros limp off with another injury.

Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 42 shots, 22 in the third period, and Vincent Lecavalier scored on a breakaway as the Lightning earned a 1-0 victory Monday night at New York.

Lecavalier’s goal 3:27 into the third helped the Lightning end a three-game losing streak, and ended the Rangers’ win streak at three.

Mike Richter stopped 20 shots for New York, which scored 19 goals in its three previous games.

The Rangers lost Lindros midway through the second period when he sprained a ligament in his right knee when he banged knees with Lightning defenseman Cory Sarich.

“Sure it’s frustrating,” said Lindros, New York’s third-leading scorer. “It seems to be the way it’s going as of late.”

Lindros, scheduled to play in the upcoming All-Star game and Olympics, missed three December games because of a sprained right knee, and seven others from Dec. 29-Jan. 13 after sustaining his seventh career concussion. He is day to day.

Vancouver 5, Nashville 1--Markus Naslund took over the NHL scoring lead with a hat trick as the Canucks won at Vancouver, Canada.

The win allowed Vancouver, 12-3-0-1 in the last 16 games, to stay tied with the Kings for eighth place in the Western Conference playoff race.

Phoenix 4, Atlanta 2--Daniel Briere scored the tiebreaking goal for Phoenix midway through the second period and Sean Burke had a fairly easy night in his return to goal at Atlanta.

Burke, who missed seven games because of a groin strain, faced 16 shots and had to make only a handful of tough saves in his first appearance since a Jan. 9 loss to San Jose.

Boston 2, Chicago 1--Bill Guerin scored with 21.1 seconds left and Byron Dafoe made 26 saves for the Bruins at Boston.

The Blackhawks are 10-12-5 on the road despite starting the night with the second-most points in the NHL.

Calgary 3, Minnesota 2--Jarome Iginla scored on a tip-in 46 seconds into overtime, leading the Flames to a victory at St. Paul, Minn. Calgary, which started the season 13-2-2-2, has eight wins in its last 33 games.

Dallas 4, Columbus 2--Rob DiMaio broke a tie with 7:04 to play at Dallas, leading the Stars to their first win under interim Coach Rick Wilson.

Dallas ended a three-game losing streak.

Detroit 1, Edmonton 1--Tomas Holmstrom scored a power-play goal at 14:42 of the second period to lift the Red Wings to a tie at Edmonton, Canada.
