Coverage Scores Big on Univision
Univision’s live Spanish-language coverage of Brazil’s 2-0 victory over Germany in the World Cup final Sunday morning scored a huge victory over ABC’s live coverage in Los Angeles.
Univision’s game coverage, carried by Channel 34 at 4 a.m., drew a 5.8 rating with a 30 share of the audience and was seen in 308,000 homes.
ABC’s live coverage on Channel 7 at 4 a.m. earned a 2.7/14 and was seen in 143,000 homes.
Nationally, ABC’s live coverage earned an overnight rating of 3.9 with a 16 share, and the rebroadcast, shown six hours later, earned a 2.8/7.
In Los Angeles, the rebroadcast got a 5.2/13.
Four years ago, the Brazil-France World Cup final, shown live in the afternoon, had a 6.9/17, about equal to the two showings this year.
A rating is the percentage of all homes with TVs, whether or not they are in use. A share is the percentage of homes with TVs in use.
Overnight ratings measure the 53 largest markets, which represent 65% of the population.
