L.A.’s ‘Neighborhood Prosecutor’ Program
Re “Tackling Neighborhoods’ Little Woes Before They Grow Large,” June 28:
My neighbors and I recently had an ongoing parking problem in the alley behind our houses. After months of frustration on our part and inaction on the city’s part, I wrote letters to the Parking Violations Bureau, Mayor James Hahn, City Councilwoman Ruth Galanter and City Atty. Rocky Delgadillo.
I received a form letter from Parking Violations. Hahn’s and Galanter’s offices never even bothered to respond to my plea for help. But within three days, Gita Isagholian, the “neighborhood prosecutor” from the city attorney’s office, called me. Within two weeks, she and Theresa Skinner, the senior lead officer for the Police Department’s Pacific Division, had solved our problem.
Not only was I thrilled to get the issue resolved, I was elated that someone in city government actually responded to my plea and took on the responsibility of fixing the problem. Delgadillo should be commended for instituting such an innovative and effective program.
