Sun Microsystems Inc., in a sign of the dearth of interest among institutional investors for Silicon Valley property, sold its former headquarters in Palo Alto to a Jewish community group.

Sun sold the 256,000-square-foot office building and 12 acres to Jewish Community for Life. Terms weren’t disclosed. Sun said it sold the property as part of a plan to consolidate facilities and cut costs.

Sun opened a new corporate headquarters campus in Santa Clara in 2000 and is relocating about 1,000 workers from the old headquarters building.
