A man accused of shooting his girlfriend several times and then keeping her in a garage where he treated her wounds pleaded not guilty to three felony counts.

Christian Leroy Lindblad, 36, was charged Monday with one count each of attempted murder, torture and false imprisonment by violence. Lindblad remains in jail on $500,000 bail. His next court date is July 18.

Christina Stebbins, 35, was at Loma Linda University Medical Center. She was shot in the abdomen, right arm and right leg on June 27 in the home she shared with Lindblad on the edge of Baldwin Lake, a few miles east of Big Bear Lake.

Authorities said that Stebbins slept on a mattress after the shooting, and that Lindblad treated her wounds but refused to call for help. It wasn’t until a family friend called authorities that Stebbins was discovered.

San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies are unsure whether Stebbins will live. If she dies as a result of the injuries, additional charges could be filed against Lindblad.

“She would have survived those gunshots for sure if she had been taken to a hospital right away,” sheriff’s Sgt. Bobby Dean said. “Now, I just don’t know.”

Investigators are still trying to determine the role of Lindblad’s parents, who were reportedly called by their son shortly after he allegedly shot Stebbins. They also helped treat her, applying gauze, soap and water and antiseptics, authorities said.

No charges have been filed against the parents, whose names were not released.
