Parolee Held in Robbery of Oxnard Bank
A Santa Barbara man who was in Oxnard for a meeting with his parole officer Monday was arrested on suspicion of bank robbery.
Curtis Ransom, 46, allegedly walked into a Washington Mutual branch on the 100 block of West 1st Street about 1:30 p.m. and handed a teller a note demanding money, said Cmdr. Tom Chronister of the Oxnard Police Department.
The robber fled on foot with the cash but was quickly caught by officers who had been patrolling the area, Chronister said.
The robber was unarmed. Ransom was booked into Ventura County Jail and will be held without bail, Chronister said.
Ransom is one of about 350 parolees from Santa Barbara who have been meeting with agents in Oxnard since the closure of the Santa Barbara office in February, said Christine Moorey, deputy regional administrator in the parole division of the state Department of Corrections. That office was closed for fiscal reasons after many parolees were reassigned to the new Santa Maria office, Moorey said.
