Hearst Castle Is Forced to Reduce Tours by 10%
A state budget cut has forced Hearst Castle to reduce the tours it can offer by 10%, officials said.
About 86,000 fewer people will be able to take the tours this year as a result, officials said. The decrease was part of cuts intended to trim the state’s projected $24-billion deficit.
Last year, about 860,000 tours were taken at the hilltop estate of William Randolph Hearst, said Kirk Sturm, superintendent of the San Simeon State Parks District.
The castle could lose more than $800,000 in ticket and other sales as a result of the cutback.
