Edwin A. Heafey Jr., 71; Former Regent, Chairman of Law Firm
Edwin A. Heafey Jr., 71, chairman of Crosby, Heafey, Roach & May, one of Northern California’s leading law firms, died July 11 in Oakland of cancer.
Born in Oakland, Heafey graduated from Santa Clara University in 1952 and earned his law degree from Stanford. After passing the California bar, he joined the firm of Hager, Crosby & Rosson in Oakland. The firm took its present name after merging with another in 1968.
The firm employs 250 attorneys, and has offices in San Francisco and Los Angeles in addition to Oakland.
Heafey was a trustee and regent emeritus of Santa Clara University and was on the board of fellows at Stanford Law School. He also taught at Boalt Hall School of Law at UC Berkeley.
An expert in business law and personal injury litigation, Heafey wrote “California Trial Objections,” which is considered among the best books on trial practice in the state of California.
