Trial Opens in Rape Blamed on Village Jury
Four men charged with gang-raping a woman on the orders of a traditional village council went on trial in Dera Ghazi Khan in a case that sparked national outrage.
Ten other men are charged with ordering the attack in Pakistan; all 14 deny the charges.
The woman says she was repeatedly raped after approaching the tribal council in the village of Meerwala to settle a dispute between two families.
Her family says the dispute included her brother being sodomized by three men after they accused him of having an illicit affair with a girl from their clan.
