Two Killed in Jailbreak During Time of Match
Two prisoners were killed as they attempted to escape a jail during Brazil’s World Cup match with Turkey.
At least 17 prisoners escaped--only four were recaptured--through a tunnel at about 6:30 a.m., a half-hour after Brazil’s first game began, Sao Paulo police said.
During the escape, a group of men opened fire from outside the Provisional Detention Center in Osasco, on this city’s outskirts, to distract guards.
Prison officials were conducting a recount to confirm the exact number of escapees.
