Johnson & Johnson Finds Counterfeiting

Johnson & Johnson said an additional incident of counterfeiting involving the Procrit anemia drug has been found, the second time in a week the drug maker reported that some of the medicine was diluted.

In a letter dated Friday, the company told doctors and other health-care professionals to watch for Procrit with Lot No. P002384.

Authentic medicine with the lot number was shipped in September, and Johnson & Johnson said it was likely that all of that Procrit was used, so any product with the number would be suspect.

The Food and Drug Administration posted Johnson & Johnson’s letter about the new case on its Web site.

In a letter Thursday, the drug maker said greatly weakened Procrit had been found in Texas and urged health-care personnel to watch for Lot P002641.
