The party of Yugoslavia’s president pulled out of the parliament of the nation’s main republic, deepening a power struggle between President Vojislav Kostunica and Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic.

The 45 lawmakers of Kostunica’s party said the Serbian parliament, dominated by Djindjic, had become a sham and called for protests and strikes against the government.

The Kostunica-allied lawmakers said they were protesting Djindjic’s decision Tuesday to replace 21 of them and give some of their seats to members of rival parties.
