A suspected Al Qaeda leader who claims to have fired a missile at a U.S. warplane leaving a Saudi base was returned to Saudi Arabia for trial, Sudan said.

The unidentified Sudanese man admitted firing a surface-to-air missile at a plane leaving Prince Sultan Air Base, south of Riyadh, the Saudi capital, then returning to Sudan, an Interior Ministry statement said. No aircraft was hit.

The ministry said the man had an unspecified number of Saudi accomplices, who have confessed.
