9 in Drug Ring Plead Guilty to Pot Charges

Nine members of a major Mexican narcotics ring accused of growing marijuana gardens in the Sierra Nevada have pleaded guilty to federal felony charges.
Each faces up to 14 years in prison and fines of up to $500,000, Assistant U.S. Atty. William Shipley said.
Authorities called the group large and sophisticated, responsible for growing more than 100,000 marijuana plants in the Sierra from 1997 to 2001.
Shipley said the nine are members of the Magana Organization.
