Coal Mine Blast Kills 111; 4 Workers Are Missing

The death toll in a gas explosion at a Chinese coal mine climbed today to 111, and four other miners were missing, an official said.
Twenty-four workers from the Chengzihe mine in Jixi, a city in the northeastern province of Heilongjiang, have been hospitalized for injuries, said the city official, who refused to give his name.
Thursday’s explosion occurred about 9:45 a.m., when about 140 workers were in the mine, the official New China News Agency said.
