Jefferson Smurfit Group, the packaging maker that agreed to be acquired by Madison Dearborn Partners Inc., said it was in talks with another potential bidder, which it declined to identify.

Building products maker Nortek Inc. has agreed to be acquired for $506 million in cash by a group that includes its chief executive and an affiliate of New York-based investment firm Kelso & Co. The deal is subject to shareholder approval but is expected to be completed by October.

Lucent Technologies Inc. filed a lawsuit accusing Irvine-based Broadcom Corp. of improperly using Lucent’s patented technology in chips for modems. Broadcom executives were not available for comment.
