Apple Computer Inc.’s iPod portable music player may get a sales boost as a small Iowa company today begins selling software that enables the device to work with Microsoft Corp.’s Windows operating system, analysts said.

The palm-size iPod is made to work only with Apple computers, which account for less than 5% of all personal computers. Mediafour Corp.’s XPlay software allows iPod to download and play songs from PCs that use Windows.
