A Panorama City man was in custody Saturday after Los Angeles police and federal officers found a cache of assault weapons and counterfeit money during a search of his home.

More than 75 assault rifles and about 100 handguns were seized at the house in the 8000 block of Greenbush Avenue, police said.

The discovery of at least two hand grenades prompted police to evacuate the neighborhood for about two hours until a bomb squad determined them to be inert.

Officers also found materials and a machine for making credit cards and a large number of counterfeit $20 bills. Agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the U.S. Secret Service are investigating.

Police initially spotted some of the weapons while helping a bounty hunter search the house for another man wanted on two $1-million warrants.

That man remains at large, police said. Authorities did not release the name of the man in custody.
