California 33 Work by Caltrans to Be Audited

From Times Staff Reports

The state Legislature this week gave the green light for an audit of the California Department of Transportation that looks at construction delays and design flaws of a median strip built along California 33 in Ventura.

Assemblywoman Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) requested the audit after hearing complaints from constituents about delays, problems with contractors and unsound performance bonds. The three-mile concrete barrier runs from West Main Street to Crooked Palm Road in Ventura. It replaced a metal barrier.

The audit will try to determine the reason for the delays and cost overruns and how to prevent similar problems in the future, Jackson said.
