Boeing May Lose 777 Order From EVA

Boeing Co. may lose its only customer for a planned long-range version of the 777 jetliner as EVA Airways Corp., Taiwan’s second-largest airline, prepares to cancel a $3-billion order.

EVA is “finalizing a plan to cancel the Boeing 777 orders” and focus on regional routes, Chairman Yu Chong-ho said. “EVA’s more profitable routes are Hong Kong and Japan, so we wouldn’t really have good use for Boeing 777s.”

Boeing still is talking with EVA about the order, and the carrier may actually increase the size of the purchase, said a spokeswoman for the U.S. plane maker.

Shares of Boeing, based in Chicago, rose $1.29 to $49.13 on the NYSE.
