9 Killed, 7 Injured in Blast at Fireworks Factory

An explosion at a fireworks factory in southern China killed nine people and injured seven, a local official said.
The blast Saturday afternoon in a village in Guangdong province killed the factory owner, his wife and son, and six others, according to an official in nearby Jieyang city.
Seven others were injured. It wasn’t clear whether the factory was licensed to operate.
China has been trying to crack down on illegal and unsafe fireworks factories, where explosions and accidents kill or maim scores each year.
