A Florida accountant who tried to get actor Wesley Snipes a $7.36-million tax refund was sued by the government on claims he ran a tax-refund plot in 32 states.

Douglas P. Rosile, whose license has been revoked by two states, told clients including Snipes that only income from foreign sources is subject to U.S. income tax, according to the civil suit filed in federal court in Tampa, Fla. Rosile tried to get refunds worth more than $36 million for 188 clients, the suit alleges.

The Internal Revenue Service didn’t pay in most cases.

The Justice Department said such arguments are “patently frivolous” and people who try to avoid paying taxes based on the claims could face civil and criminal penalties.
