Share

The National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C., will enter its 90th year Saturday, with scores of events and exhibits through April 8. The blossoms on the hundreds of trees in the Tidal Basin area are expected to reach their peak between April 1 and 5, says Robert DeFeo, the chief horticulturalist for the National Park Service’s National Capital Region.

The festival, celebrating the trees that Japan gave to the U.S. in 1912, includes kite flying, Japanese cultural performances, art exhibits, garden tours and concerts. Most events are free. The parade is April 6; grandstand seats are $14. For schedules and other information, call (202) 547-1500 or visit the Internet site www.nationalcherryblossomfestival.org.
