2 Flee as Fire Guts Mansion
Authorities sifted through a fire-gutted Beverly Hills mansion on Saturday, searching for clues to the cause of the blaze that destroyed it.
Two people in the 7,000-square-foot home in the 9400 block of Sunset Boulevard managed to flee the fire unhurt Friday night, said Beverly Hills Deputy Fire Chief Robert Cavaglieri. The home, which belongs to philanthropists Stewart and Lynda Resnick, according to records, has been valued at more than $3 million.
As more than 60 firefighters from Beverly Hills and the city and county of Los Angeles arrived to combat the blaze, 40-foot flames shot out from the rooftop, Cavaglieri said. The blaze’s quick spread may have been aided by recently applied paint that may have acted as fuel for the flames, as well as a wood shingle roof, Cavaglieri said.
Crews battled the fire for more than an hour before extinguishing it at 8:45 p.m.
