City Extends Benefits for Worker on Military Duty
The city of Ventura agreed this week to extend salary and benefits to city employees on active duty with the U.S. military.
The decision to authorize benefits for another six months was made by the City Council on Monday night.
The city will pay the difference between what an employee receives in military pay and what he or she makes as a city worker. Currently, only one city employee--a Ventura police officer--will receive the benefit.
The council agreed to the provision six months ago and decided to extend the benefit after learning the employee will remain on active duty for another six months.
The total cost to Ventura will be about $17,000, said Linda Kegerreis, the city’s director of human resources.
