Canucks Stay Hot, Cruise Past Ducks

Markus Naslund had a goal and an assist as the Vancouver Canucks beat the Mighty Ducks, 4-1, Saturday night.

Henrik Sedin, Andrew Cassels and Trevor Letowski also scored for the Canucks, who won for the eighth time in the last 10 games.

Jason York scored the only Anaheim goal during a five-on-three power play.

Vancouver outshot the Ducks, 17-4, in the first period, using four consecutive power plays. But the Canucks failed to score on the man advantage.

Sedin, who opened the scoring at 15:16 of the first period, extended his goal scoring streak to three games. After Duck goalie Steve Shields stopped a shot from close range by Todd Warriner, the puck appeared to get caught in the goalie’s equipment. Most of the players skated away after a lengthy delay, but the whistle never blew and Sedin poked the puck past Shields after he shook it free of his equipment.

After Sedin’s goal, Naslund made it 2-0 only 1:37 later with the teams playing four on four. After two Duck defenders collided trying to catch a high puck, Naslund collected it and snapped a long wrist shot past Shields for his 33rd goal of the season.

York made it 2-1 with a one-timer from the point midway through the second.

The Ducks played without defenseman Oleg Tverdovsky, who missed his third consecutive game because of a groin injury.
