The body of a 67-year-old woman who had been dead for some time was discovered Wednesday under piles of trash in her San Bernardino home.

Investigators don’t know how June Elizabeth Yeier died.

On Monday, after out-of-state relatives asked police to check on her, officers went to the tiny, ramshackle house with chipped paint and a dirt frontyard and found the front door open.

They were unable to see much of the interior because “there was trash wall to wall, floor to ceiling,” said Police Lt. Frank Mankin.

Police asked code enforcement officers to cart the garbage away, and in the meantime declared Yeier missing.

They returned Wednesday when the rooms were more accessible.

In the late afternoon, they found Yeier’s decomposing body, partly obscured by trash, Mankin said.

Homicide investigators brought portable lamps into the house, which lacks electricity, and began searching for clues to her death.

Investigators said that an autopsy will be performed.
