‘Camaro’ Night Rocks This Way

Share

Holy cow! Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler sang “Walk This Way” at the Viper Room on Monday(!), with Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers on drums. Naturally, this cosmic convergence could only have happened during a Metal Shop gig. Seems everyone’s getting in on the fun at the Viper’s “Camaro” night, including “America’s Most Wanted’s” John Walsh, who took his first night off since 9/11 last Monday by partaking in some Metal Shop hysterics. Some 700 bad guys caught and counting. Rock on, John.

I’m starting to really dig the suburbs. For one thing, parents couldn’t find a better all-ages club for their kids than the Glass House in Pomona. No alcohol, seasoned security and plenty of moshing fun. Not too far away is the Block at Orange, where youngsters proved a raucous punk show can still be a good time. To celebrate the release of “Dogtown and Z-Boys,” Suicidal Tendencies and the Adolescents performed at the Block on Thursday, showing the grommets how the big boys did it back in the day. On hand to celebrate the skate culture flick were U.S. Bombs’ Dwayne Peters, Pennywise and director Stacy Peralta. The best part was the vintage played T.S.O.L. between sets. Singer-songwriter Jack Grisham was ahead of his time.

Speaking of outer limits, don’t miss “Tijuana” Thursdays at the El Dorado Cantina in Brentwood. You can boogie down to hippoty-hop while taking pictures on a donkey. Hee haw.... Shooter Jennings of Stargunn is proving the apple doesn’t fall far from the talent tree in his Wednesday residency at the Viper Room. On hand to dig his groove last week were Hank Williams III and Gram Parson’s daughter, Polly.

My pal Paul V. of Dragstrip 66 fame says they’re putting on the ritz Monday nights at the Argyle Hotel in WeHo. The weekly swing-themed affair is dubbed Maxwell’s at the Argyle, and it includes live music, swanky attire and special performances by Marilyn Manson’s squeeze, Dita Von Teese, who showed up Monday with a giant martini glass prop and little else. Cheers!
