Although other visitors often complain about the blaring music, loud fans and low-flying jets, Russ Ortiz really likes playing at Shea Stadium.

On Tuesday night, he had even more fun.

Ortiz pitched a shutout into the seventh inning and hit a two-run double that sent the San Francisco Giants past the New York Mets, 5-1, in a matchup of division leaders.

“The first time I came here, I loved it,” Ortiz said. “Every time I’ve come back, I’ve enjoyed it. It’s one of the places where I can say I feel pretty comfortable.”

Ortiz earned his first major league victory at Shea in 1998, and is 6-1 lifetime against the Mets.

The Giants have won only five times in their last 17 games at New York, and Ortiz has three of the victories.

“The fans really get into it. It’s not in-your-face stuff or anything. I try to feed off that,” he said. “It’s one of those electric ballparks.”

David Bell drove in two runs, and Tim Worrell provided timely relief to help the Giants win for the seventh time in eight games.

Barry Bonds, who has seldom hit well at Shea, went 0 for 3 after hitting home runs against Cincinnati in each of his previous two games. He drew two more walks to boost his major league-leading total to 42.

Chicago 8, St. Louis 0--Kerry Wood struck out nine in his first complete game in a year, and Alex Gonzalez drove in four runs at Chicago.

The Cubs have won three in a row for the first time this season.

Wood (4-2) gave up four hits for his first shutout since May 25, 2001.

Arizona 7, Pittsburgh 6--Danny Bautista tied a career high with four hits, breaking a 6-6 tie with a run-scoring single against Joe Beimel (0-1) in the eighth at Phoenix.

Greg Colbrunn had three hits, including a home run, for Arizona. Pittsburgh had tied the score in the eighth when Jason Kendall hit his first home run this season, a two-run drive against Mike Morgan, who also gave up a run on a wild pitch.

Colorado 5, Montreal 3--Todd Hollandsworth hit a two-run homer in the second inning and Colorado scored the go-ahead runs on center fielder Endy Chavez’s three-base error in the fifth inning at Montreal.

John Thomson (5-2) won his third consecutive start and the Rockies got their first road victory since April 19, a streak of eight games.

Florida 12, San Diego 4--Ryan Dempster (1-3), winless in 11 starts since Sept. 2, was staked to a 10-0 lead at Miami.

Dempster gave up three runs and six hits in 61/3 innings and hit a run-scoring single in a five-run first inning against Bobby Jones (3-2).

Philadelphia 7, Houston 4--Tomas Perez scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch by Hipolito Pichardo (0-1) in the bottom of the seventh.

The Phillies, who lost a club-record 18 games in April, have won four in a row and their much-maligned relievers haven’t given up a run in 162/3 innings.

Cincinnati 8, Milwaukee 2--Sean Casey hit his first homer since August and Adam Dunn extended his surge with a three-run home run at Cincinnati.

Elmer Dessens (2-3) gave up two runs and five hits in seven innings for the NL Central leaders. He had two singles and drove in two runs.
