Free Democrats Leader to Run for Chancellor

GERMANY
Germany’s pro-business party tapped its 40-year-old leader, Guido Westerwelle, to run for chancellor this fall, the first time it has fielded a candidate for the nation’s highest office.
Energized by strong showings in state elections in Berlin and Saxony-Anhalt, the Free Democratic Party is seen as wanting to offer voters an alternative to the ruling Social Democrats and the conservative opposition.
