Dollar Bill Seeking Change

Share

On the one-year anniversary of his fourth-place finish in the Preakness, Dollar Bill, one of the most over-hyped horses to run in recent years, will try for a rare victory in the $500,000 Hawthorne Gold Cup in Chicago.

Owned by Gary and Mary West and trained by Dallas Stewart, the 4-year-old son of Peaks And Valleys has won only one of his last eight starts, that in a weak allowance race at the New Orleans Fair Grounds in his first start of 2002.

Although only five others entered the 10-furlong Gold Cup, they make for an accomplished quintet.

In New York, Victory Ride will look for her fifth win in six starts when she faces only four rivals in the $200,000 Shuvee Handicap at Belmont Park.

Owned by G. Watts and Louise Humphrey, and trained by George Arnold, Victory Ride, a 4-year-old Seeking The Gold filly, will be trying for her second graded stakes win in the Shuvee, which is a Grade II. Last year, she dominated seven other 3-year-old fillies in the Test at Saratoga.

Those opposing her in the one-mile race are Atelier, who was scratched from a stakes at Pimlico on Friday, Two Item Limit, Raging Fever, who is four for four at Belmont, and Shiny Band.

In another graded stakes, Janet and Keemoon, who finished 1-2 in the race last year, will meet again in the $150,000 Yerba Buena Breeders’ Cup Handicap at 13/8 miles on the turf.

Jockey David Flores has the mount on Janet, who won the Grade III by three-quarters of a length last year, while Jason Lumpkins will ride Keemoon. The field is completed by Racene, Nepenthe, and the Gary Tanaka-owned entry of Peu a Peu and Polaire.
