MAY

29-July 3: Last Remaining Seats. The 16th season of classic films and live entertainment presented in the lavish movie palaces of the Broadway Historic Theater District. This year’s titles include “Pillow Talk,” with Rock Hudson and Doris Day; “From Here to Eternity,” starring Burt Lancaster, Deborah Kerr, Montgomery Clift and Frank Sinatra; and the Spanish-language “Distinto Amanecer,” featuring Pedro Armendariz and Andrea Palma. Los Angeles Conservancy at downtown theaters.

31-June 9: The Films of Mario Bava. A two-week retrospective of the Italian horror director’s films includes “Black Sunday,” “Lisa and the Devil” and the long-lost thriller “Kidnapped” (a.k.a. “Wild Dogs”). American Cinematheque at Lloyd E. Rigler Theatre at the Egyptian.

JUNE

4-July 23: German Blockbusters. Annual series features popular German-language films including Doris Doerrie’s “Enlightenment Guaranteed” and “Moonlight Tariff” (“Mondscheintarif”) by Ralf Huettner. Goethe-Institut German Cultural Center.

7-July 6: Double Exposure: Photography, Film and the Cinema. An exploration of the relationship between the still and the moving image features formalist works such as “The Man With the Movie Camera” and “Wavelength”; dramatic features “Rear Window,” “Peeping Tom” and “Blowup”; and a discussion with documentarian Ken Burns (“The Civil War,” “Mark Twain”). Bing Theater at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

7-15: UCLA Festival 2002. A celebration of the latest work by UCLA’s Theater, Film and Television students includes live performances, screenings and readings. James Bridges Theater.

14-16: “Bob Le Flambeur.” Restored version of Jean-Pierre Melville’s noir masterpiece, a variation on “The Asphalt Jungle,” stars Roger Duchesne and Isabel Corey. American Cinematheque at Lloyd E. Rigler Theatre at the Egyptian.

20-29: IFP/West-Los Angeles Film Festival. The eighth annual event features 153 films, including 57 features from 22 countries. The closing night film is director Miguel Arteta and writer Mike White’s “The Good Girl,” starring Jennifer Aniston. Laemmle’s Sunset 5 Cinema and other venues.

21-26: New Films From Japan. A showcase of the most intriguing and challenging products of recent Japanese cinema includes “Sukedachiya Sukeroku” and “Japanese Devils” (“Riben Guizi”). American Cinematheque at Lloyd E. Rigler Theatre at the Egyptian.

27-July 7: Mods & Rockers 2002. The fourth annual go-go fest includes a preview of the new documentary “Blue Wild Angels.” American Cinematheque at Lloyd E. Rigler Theatre at the Egyptian.

11-Aug. 22: Outfest 2002: The 20th Annual Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. The largest film festival in Southern California celebrates two decades.

18-Aug. 17: William Wyler and the Tradition of Excellence. A centenary tribute to the great Hollywood director includes “The Best Years of Our Lives,” “Roman Holiday,” “Funny Girl” and “Ben-Hur.” Bing Theater at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

25-Aug. 24: UCLA Film and Television Archive Festival of Preservation. Biennial event showcases the work of the archive in restoring and preserving films and raises awareness of the importance of such work. Among the titles screening will be Joseph L. Mankiewicz’s “The Barefoot Contessa,” William Wellman’s “A Star Is Born,” John Cassavetes’ “Shadows,” John Sayles’ “Matewan” and Charles Laughton’s “The Night of the Hunter.” James Bridges Theater, UCLA.

31-Aug. 28: The Films of Andy Warhol. In conjunction with MOCA’s summer retrospective, 16 of Warhol’s films will be screened, including “Chelsea Girls,” “Tarzan and Jane Regained” and “My Hustler.” American Cinematheque at Lloyd E. Rigler Theatre at the Egyptian.

AUGUST

9-25: Sci-Fi, Fantasy & Horror Film Festival. The third annual event features new and classic international genre films. American Cinematheque at Lloyd E. Rigler Theatre at the Egyptian.

19-20: Down Under Shorts. Short films from Australia and New Zealand. American Cinematheque at Lloyd E. Rigler Theatre at the Egyptian.

22-Sept. 7: Movie Crazy: The Films of Harold Lloyd. The bespectacled silent star’s films include “Safety Last!,” “The Freshman,” “Why Worry” and “Speedy.” Bing Theater at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
