Former Pemex Official Arrested in PRI Probe
From Times Wire Reports
Mexican authorities have arrested a former high-ranking official at Pemex, the state-owned oil monopoly, in an election funding investigation.
Authorities say Manuel Gomezperalta, former corporate administrative director, was part of a web of Pemex officials who helped channel workers’ union funds to the campaign of Francisco Labastida, the Institutional Revolutionary Party’s presidential candidate in 2000.
The PRI has denounced the investigation as politically motivated by President Vicente Fox and his party.
