Gov. Davis Fires Latest Chief of E-Government
For the second time in a month, Gov. Gray Davis fired his director of e-government Wednesday.
The resignation brings to four the number of administration officials who have been forced to quit or have been suspended pending investigations into circumstances surrounding the state’s $95-million software contract with Oracle Corp. and other matters related to state contracts with high-tech firms.
In a brief statement, Davis said he had “accepted the resignation” of Vin Patel, interim director of e-government.
The governor appointed Patel to the post May 5 after forcing the resignation of the previous e-government director, Arun Baheti. Baheti accepted a $25,000 donation to the Davis campaign last June from an Oracle lobbyist shortly after the company won the $95-million licensing contract.
Davis gave no details on the reasons for seeking Patel’s ouster. Patel had worked in the administration since 1999.
