Nvidia Corp. engineer Robert Prevett was found guilty by a federal jury in San Jose of illegally profiting from stock trades before the firm announced a contract to provide graphics chips to Microsoft Corp.

Prevett, 38, faces a $1-million fine and up to 10 years in prison for buying 10,000 Nvidia shares using insider knowledge four days before the contract to make chips for the Xbox video game system was announced March 10, 2000. He made $595,000 from trades in Nvidia shares. Prevett’s attorney said he would appeal.
