Presidential Contenders to Merge Campaigns

Two contenders in South Korea’s presidential race announced a pact to merge their campaigns and field a single candidate in next month’s election, in an attempt to snatch victory from the front-runner.
The candidates, national soccer chief Chung Mong Joon and former human rights lawyer Roh Moo Hyun, will compete in TV debates and opinion polls to determine which of them will stand in the Dec. 19 election, they said.
