Schools Share the Blame for Students’ Cheating
Re “Student Cheaters Ultimately Cheat Only Themselves,” Nov. 2:
As a teacher at North Orange County Regional Occupational Program, I can attest to the fact that cheating in school is rampant.
The blame, however, falls as much on the schools as the students. Many teachers tend to look the other way because detecting and preventing cheating takes too much effort and decreases pass rates.
And if teachers do try to stop it, they get little or no support from the administration. The administrators are more interested in funding tied to average daily attendance than in the integrity of the program or the quality of the product.
It is no wonder the latest statistics reveal that 74% of high school students have learned that it pays to cheat.
