War Crimes Charges Filed Against Iraqi
Danish authorities brought war crimes charges against a former Iraqi army commander who says he plans to lead an insurrection against Saddam Hussein.
Nizar Khazraji, who fled Iraq in 1996, was ordered to court just days before he planned to leave Denmark. In an interview, he said he wanted to reach northern Iraq and hook up with dissidents to launch the coup.
Danish prosecutors have been pursuing allegations that Khazraji helped spearhead Hussein’s brutal campaign against Kurdish civilians in the late 1980s. He is accused of murder, pillage and destruction of property. He says he is innocent.
