Government Extends Cleric’s Detention
From Times Wire Reports
Indonesia extended the detention of Muslim cleric Abu Bakar Bashir -- suspected of involvement in church bombings in 2000 and a plot to kill President Megawati Sukarnoputri -- until the end of the year.
Bashir, who was arrested Oct. 19, is being held in a police hospital in Jakarta. Police have said Bashir heads Jemaah Islamiah, a militant Muslim network.
Bashir, who has denied links to Jemaah Islamiah and any wrongdoing, has refused to cooperate with investigators.
