Abandoned Homes Used by Squatters Torn Down
From Times Staff Reports
Two single-family houses and a duplex were razed Friday, culminating a four-year effort to stop gang members and drug addicts from squatting in the abandoned dwellings.
“We are taking back this neighborhood,” City Atty. Rocky Delgadillo said outside the property in the 5900 block of Willoughby Avenue.
Since 1998, owner Rose M. Martin ignored city orders and calls to court hearings, officials said. She died June 6.
The property will be fenced, pending the finding of an heir or selling of the land.
