Opposition Leader and Three Aides Arrested
From Times Wire Reports
Gambia’s main opposition leader and three of his aides were arrested with no official explanation, their lawyer said.
Members of Oussainou Darboe’s United Democratic Party said they thought the arrests were linked to the killing of a rival political activist two years ago in the West African country.
The lawyer, Marieme Denton, said Darboe was picked up Friday and taken to a police station near the capital, Banjul. His deputy, the head of the party’s youth wing and another youth leader also were detained.
