Manager Sought for Preserve
A conservation organization is needed to manage the 1,300-acre Chatsworth Reservoir nature preserve, Los Angeles officials said on Wednesday.
The city is seeking bids from qualified organizations to manage the preserve, which is home to deer, bobcats and ancient Native American ritual sites, said the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, the land’s owner.
“I am extremely pleased that finally we have reached this crucial stage in our continuing efforts to find a qualified conservation-oriented agency to run this great natural resource,” said Councilman Hal Bernson, who spearheaded the move to have the city declare Chatsworth Reservoir a nature preserve about three years ago.
The new custodians of the land would maintain the property and also create an environmental education program for the public, said a spokesman for Bernson, who represents the area.
The DWP has scheduled a meeting with interested parties on Dec. 19 at the agency’s downtown headquarters.
