Celebrity publicist Elizabeth Grubman left jail quietly Friday after serving time for backing her Mercedes-Benz sport utility vehicle into a crowd outside a Hamptons nightclub and fleeing.

Grubman, 31, avoided the cameras and was whisked away in a private car after serving 37 days of a 60-day sentence at the Suffolk County Jail, with time off for good behavior, said her lawyer, Stephen Scaring.

Grubman had built a thriving business promoting clients including singer Britney Spears, rapper Jay-Z and the Backstreet Boys.

She was jailed Oct. 23 after pleading guilty to assault and leaving the scene of an accident outside the Conscience Point Inn, where she backed into and injured at least 16 people after allegedly shouting epithets at a club bouncer. Some witnesses said her actions the morning of July 7, 2001, seemed deliberate, but Grubman said the whole thing was an accident.

Grubman still faces lawsuits filed by six people who were hurt. Other plaintiffs have settled cases for undisclosed amounts.
