DJs Emerson, Deluxe to Help Open Stereo Club

It seems like every week there’s a new dance club opening in L.A., but the arrival of a new spot with the backing of L.A. dance music guru Jason Bentley and Gary Richards (who promotes the Sunday Pool Party at the downtown Standard) is news. Bentley and Richards are promoting Stereo, which will be held every Thursday night at the new Ivar in Hollywood.

The club celebrates its grand opening tonight with a four-hour DJ set by Darren Emerson and Tim Deluxe. Producer-DJ Emerson is best known for his work with the seminal electronic band Underworld, while Deluxe is a remix whiz whose deft touches can be heard on some of this year’s biggest records--Kylie Minogue’s “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” and Layo & Bushwacka’s “Love Story” among them. Together, the pair has just released “Underwater: Episode 1,” a two-CD compilation that rejoices in the uplifting, body-gyrating sound of house music.

In one of his last local appearances, Emerson was victimized by poor turnout and lack of energy. However, tonight, spurred on by partner Deluxe and the buzz of an opening night, Emerson should be in prime form.
