From Times Wire Reports

An Illinois postal worker accused of firing a pistol outside the United Nations in New York was held without bail after a prosecutor said he “threw away whatever life he had” to promote his political views about North Korea.

The FBI said in a court document that Steve Kim cased U.N. headquarters in September before firing a .357 magnum into the air Thursday. The FBI also said Kim ate very little for two days before the shooting because he thought an empty stomach would improve his survival prospects if he was shot and needed surgery.

Kim, 57, a naturalized U.S. citizen from South Korea, was charged with carrying a firearm and making a violent attack on foreign officials. No plea was entered.
