DUI Charge Is Janikowski’s Latest Legal Mess

Oakland Raider kicker Sebastian Janikowski was charged with driving under the influence, adding another chapter to his history of legal problems.

Janikowski was stopped for speeding in Oakland early Wednesday and failed a sobriety test, police said Friday.

His blood-alcohol level registered 0.20, more than twice the legal limit, police said.

“I’m not allowed to talk about it, and my focus is on the Buffalo Bills,” the 24-year-old Janikowski said before the Raiders left for their game at Buffalo.

If convicted, he could face up to six months in jail, Alameda County Deputy District Attorney Ann Kenfield said. Janikowski is scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 4.

Raider Coach Bill Callahan said Janikowski will kick against the Bills.

This is the latest in a line of troubles for Janikowski. A year ago, he needed five stitches in his head after falling on a San Francisco dance floor.

In April 2001, he was acquitted of charges of having GHB, the so-called date-rape drug.

In June 2000, Janikowski was acquitted on a charge he offered a Florida police officer $300 to release his roommate after an argument with a bouncer.

It turns out that the sports psychologists Jacksonville Jaguar Coach Tom Coughlin hired to counsel his players aren’t really sports psychologists.

Michael Brawer, executive director of the Florida Psychological Association, said that neither Chad Bohling nor Trevor Moawad, the two employees of IMG Academies hired by the Jaguars, is a licensed psychologist.

Falsely calling oneself a psychologist is against the law in Florida, and Brawer filed an “administrative complaint” to the state health department Friday, after reading a story about the men.

Brawer said he called Coughlin to notify him of the problem.

Coughlin, who said Moawad and Bohling have been doing a great job for the team, had no comment Friday.

Jacksonville spokesman Dan Edwards said the team was aware of the issue, and the Jaguars were still happy with the service the two men are providing.

New York Jet receiver Wayne Chrebet will miss Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs with a bruised right knee. He was hurt against Jacksonville last weekend.... A turf-toe injury kept St. Louis Ram cornerback Aeneas Williams, who has a streak of 127 consecutive starts, out of practice this week, and Coach Mike Martz wasn’t optimistic that Williams would play in Sunday’s game at San Francisco.
