Police Cost Money

Share

Re “Valley City Police Force Is Proposed,” Oct. 4: Joyce Pearson suggested that a new Valley city would pay for 2,500 more police officers over a five-year period. The money would supposedly come from the 5% annual reduction in the $127-million alimony payment to Los Angeles. Five percent would be about $6.4 million in the first year. If that were the amount of the reduction in each succeeding year, after five years, that would be $32 million. For 2,500 more police officers, that would come out to be about $12,800 per officer, but that does not include other employment costs. And that does not include support staff, new facilities, vehicles and equipment. Just where do they think the money will come from?

The secessionists are also pledging tax cuts. Given their fuzzy math, I’m sure the “tax cuts” would actually be more taxes.
