Cleveland Brown backup quarterback Kelly Holcomb broke his left leg and sprained his knee during a fourth-quarter rally Sunday night against the Baltimore Ravens.

Holcomb, who threw two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter as the Browns rallied before losing, suffered a hairline fracture of his left shinbone, the team said Tuesday.

The Browns did not say how long Holcomb would be sidelined.

Coach Butch Davis offered little information on Holcomb during his Monday news conference. Asked about Holcomb’s injuries, Davis said Holcomb “gutted it out and he finished the game.”

At the time, Holcomb was undergoing tests at a hospital.

Holcomb’s agent, Frank Bauer, told the Akron Beacon Journal that Holcomb was injured when a Raven lineman rolled onto his leg.

“Kelly told me [Monday] his leg was hurting like a dog, but he said, ‘I couldn’t come out of that game,’ ” Bauer told the newspaper.

Holcomb led Cleveland’s comeback from a 23-0 deficit after starting quarterback Tim Couch was sidelined because of a concussion. He threw two touchdown passes and finished 13 of 23 for 180 yards in the Browns’ 26-21 loss.

He started the Browns’ first two games as Couch recovered from an elbow injury.
