Fulmer Denies Clausen Has Broken Collarbone

Tennessee Coach Phillip Fulmer said quarterback Casey Clausen was “making progress” Wednesday and denied reports the third-year starter has a hairline fracture in his left collarbone.

Clausen has not practiced all week after hurting his left, non-throwing shoulder in last week’s 41-38 six-overtime victory over Arkansas.

Neither Fulmer nor team officials have described Clausen’s injury, only saying he was probable for Saturday when No. 10 Tennessee travels to No. 6 Georgia.

When asked if Clausen’s shoulder was broken, sprained or bruised, Fulmer said, “He’s got a sore shoulder,” and wouldn’t elaborate.

The Knoxville News-Sentinel and The Tennessean in Nashville reported that sources said Clausen has a hairline fracture in his clavicle, or collarbone.

Texas Motor Speedway General Manager Eddie Gossage said he would like to talk to Texas and Oklahoma officials about the possibility of moving the annual Big 12 Conference grudge match to the racing facility in 2004.

Gossage believes the front stretch of the 1 1/2-mile track could be configured to comfortably seat 125,000-150,000 spectators with the playing field set up on the track’s grass infield.

Oklahoma Athletic Director Joe Castiglione and Texas counterpart DeLoss Dodds told the Dallas Morning News they would be willing to consider a proposal from TMS.

The contract the schools have to play their game at the Cotton Bowl during the State Fair of Texas runs through next season.
