International Rectifier Corp. said it was awarded $27.2 million in damages after a jury found that Ixys Corp. used its patented semiconductor technology without permission.

A federal judge in Los Angeles tripled a jury’s $9.06-million award for patent infringement, El Segundo-based International Rectifier said. Santa Clara-based Ixys, which could not be reached for comment, filed suit in January accusing International Rectifier of infringing five of its patents. That case is pending.
